Purchasing Manager

Location: Oostburg, WI

The Purchasing Manager plays a pivotal role in managing relationships with the company's suppliers and products. They are tasked with fostering and maintaining meaningful connections with suppliers while overseeing quality control measures across Viking's supplier network. Additionally, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for effectively managing supplier costs to drive organizational savings. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining supplier agreements, contracts, SOPs, and other relevant documentation, as well as maintaining expertise in ERP and vendor management software.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop sourcing strategies and purchasing procedures in line with company policies.
  • Generate Purchase Orders as needed and assist in preparing bidding documents.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers and cross-functional project teams.
  • Monitor all purchase requisitions and manage adjustments with vendors.
  • Facilitate communication between Production, Service teams, and other departments.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Production, Service, and other relevant teams.
  • Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and lead times with suppliers.
  • Demonstrate decision-making aptitude in supplier-related situations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Conduct risk management assessments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least seven (7) years of experience in Supply Chain, Purchasing, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to travel 5-10%.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Industry-related certifications.
  • Purchasing experience within manufacturing.
  • Experience mentoring and leading team members either through direct reporting relationships or project collaboration.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Excellent time-management and prioritization abilities, capable of handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Adaptability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with evolving requirements.
  • Proficiency in various web-based software applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), ERP/EPICOR, SharePoint, etc.
